International students studying abroad.

Was open to students who wanted to study at college abroad.

$2,000 cash prize

The comp involved writing a 150-250 word essay on a theme.

Essay theme: My Trip, My Future

A study abroad experience is a life changing one. By immersing yourself in a foreign culture, you learn new and different ways of living. You return home a little more knowledgeable and wiser than before.

How do you hope or expect your study abroad experience might affect your future? Do you imagine the trip will alter your career, or life more broadly? If so, how? What are the potential long-term benefits of studying abroad?

A writing tip here: avoid using too many "I's", "me's" and "my's" in your essay. It's about you but you don't have to write that way.

Competition terms and conditions

The Study Abroad Award essay competition was open to students who want to study abroad at college level. The cash award can be used to pay for living expenses as an international student. You must be enrolled, or seeking to enroll, in an accredited college or university. Proof of this will be required if your essay is chosen as the winner.

Fill in the form on this page to enter. It is recommended that you first draft your essay in a Word document or similar. If you have any submission problems, you may send your entry by email to [email protected]

The competition closing date is November 1. A new round of the competition, with a different theme, will start as soon as the current round finishes.

The content of any entries may be used by Unicurve Pty Ltd for research or publishing purposes.

Judging and awarding

The winning essay will be selected by a panel and will be announced in the same month that the competition closes.

How well the essay follows the theme is a judging factor. A winning entry may be insightful, informative, entertaining or moving. There are no rules about what style of entry could win.

The $2,000 prize is paid via PayPal. An email address linked to a PayPal account is required for payment. The winner is required to send a photo of themselves with a winning certificate (to be supplied).

What Happened to the Good Colleges Study Abroad Award?

The Good Colleges Study Abroad Award was rebranded as the Lerna Courses Study Abroad Award in 2021. This change occurred after GoodColleges.online merged into Lerna.courses.

While the award continues to offer a $2,000 cash scholarship to support students studying abroad, it is now hosted on the Lerna Courses platform. The scholarship has been awarded every year from 2017 until the present day.
